Let’s face it; women were not all cut out to be a size six. In fact, most of us are not designed that way. But you wouldn’t know it to look at the swimsuits and plus size beachwear selections available a lot of places in the past. There’s good news in the world of plus size swimwear, however, in that as the demand for this type of apparel grows, more and more retailers are beginning to listen. Their response is a growing selection of plus size beachwear and swimsuit styles that are flattering to women of all different body types.
The trick to choosing the most flattering styles of plus size beachwear is to focus on accentuating your most attractive physical attributes. Yes, we all want to downplay our “problem areas” as well, but that strategy will only help so much. So a combination of these two things – downplaying the parts we don’t like so much, and drawing more attention to the parts we do like about our bodies – is the secret to finding the most flattering plus size swimwear.
With that in mind, here are some tips to help you choose the most flattering plus size beachwear for your specific body type.
The most common areas many women prefer to downplay are tummy, hips, butt and thighs. Some women also feel the need to draw attention away from a large bust, while others only wish they had that problem. Here are some useful tricks for downplaying these common “problem areas.”
Tummy: Choose a one piece swimsuit with a high lycra content to smooth the tummy area and accentuate the waist line.

Hips and Butt and Thighs: A plus size swimdress is a great solution for helping with all three of these areas. Accessorizing your swimsuit with a skirt is another helpful option.
Chest: Downplaying the chest area can be difficult, and is best accomplished simply by drawing attention to other areas of the body and balancing appearance from top to bottom. It is important, however, when dealing with this particular body issue, that you choose plus size beachwear that offers plenty of support in the chest area.
Women tend to be somewhat critical of their bodies, but we all have something positive to accentuate. Recognize this aspect about yourself and appreciate it – so you can flaunt it! Here are some of the basic rules for accentuating your most pleasing features.
Lead the Eye: If you want to draw attention away from a particular area of your body, simply accentuate another area. For example, if you want to your hips and butt to appear smaller, wear brighter colors or patterns on top to draw attention to your chest instead. This rule applies to enhancing bust appearance as well.
Choose Comfortably: There’s nothing worse than feeling like you’re squeezed into a swimsuit that doesn’t fit you right. As women, we make a lot of sacrifices in the name of fashion, but that’s not a good idea when it comes to choosing flattering plus size beachwear.
It’s easy to find plus size beachwear that will flatter your particular body type when you know these simple tricks to downplay certain areas while accentuating others.
Every woman’s body is unique, and those differences should be celebrated – not discriminated against. Gone are the days when the only acceptable attire for looking sexy on the beach is a teensy weensy string bikini, and thank goodness for that! These days anything goes, and the emphasis is on flattering your particular body type. Finding the right plus size swimwear for your body type used to be a challenging – sometimes frustrating – endeavor. But no more, thanks to the multitude of styles available in today’s swimwear market.
So how do you go about finding the plus size swimwear that will be most flattering to your unique figure? Here are a few tips to help you make the best choice.
This is often the most difficult hurdle to overcome for any woman, plus size or otherwise. We have a tendency to be very critical of our bodies. But an honest evaluation of your body type will help you to make wise, practical and even sexy choices in your selection of plus size swimwear. The trick is to appreciate your curves, your physical attributes. Then you can move on to shopping for swimwear that will accentuate the positive aspects of your body on the beach or at the pool.
Keep an Open Mind
A lot of us have a tendency to think that plus size swimwear should look a certain way. This thinking is the result of so many years of there not being a lot of choices in plus sized swimsuits, but these days that’s not the case. The plus size market has grown, and with it, so has the selection of plus size swimwear. So keep an open mind when you set off in search of a new swimsuit, and take time to check out all of your options. For example, plus size tankinis come in lots of styles and colors. A plus size swimdress is also a very comfortable and stylish option for women of a variety of different body types and sizes.
Consider Your Personality
This might seem silly, but taking your personality into account while shopping for plus size swimwear is actually very important. Consider things such as:
These are factors that should be taken into consideration particularly with regard to selecting coverage and style of plus size swimwear.
Whether your aim is to simply look sexy and feel confident in your new plus size swimwear, or to get out there and have some fun at the beach this summer, these tips will help you to choose a swimsuit that flatters both your body and your personality. And that’s a good fit all around!
That’s not what you wanted to hear right before Christmas? Enjoy the holiday season, but as soon as all the great Christmas dinners, desserts and cakes are absorbed by your body. Swimsuit season is here before you know it.
And you know what that means – you need to get your buns up off the couch and get back into shape! Lucky for you, getting in shape doesn’t have to be as difficult as most of us make it out to be. Here are a few simple tips to help you get beach ready without stressing out about your workout!
Tip number 1? Burn extra calories. The key to losing weight is to burn more calories than you eat. Many people trying to lose weight do not succeed because they do not follow this simple rule.
To begin losing more weight, decrease your daily calorie intake and increase the amount of calories you burn. By cutting down on a few hundred calories each day and working out for an extra 20 minutes, your body will be beach ready in no time!
Tip number 2? Tone your muscles. If you have ever lost weight before, you know that losing those last 10 pounds is next to impossible. This is because most people trying to lose weight focus only on cardio workouts.
And while cardio workouts will help, losing that last 10 pounds will require you to engage in some muscle toning activities! By working on strengthening your muscles you will be able to burn fat in places that you can’t burn it with cardio.
Tip number 3? Work on your stomach muscles. The main thing that you want to show off at the beach is your belly, so start working on toning up those abdominal muscles. The best part about strengthening your abs?
You don’t need to spend a fortune on a gym membership. Simply buy a workout mat and devote 30 minutes of your day to sit ups, leg raises, crunches, and medicine ball workouts.
Tip number 4? Eat a healthy diet. If you want to lose weight and look great in your plus size swimsuit this summer, maintaining a healthy diet is the most important thing you can do.
By eating a variety of fruits and vegetables (and staying away from junk foods!) you will be able to maintain a healthy weight, tone up your body, and become more active. An added bonus? When you eat healthy, your skin will shine, making your body that much more ready for the beach!
There is one diet program that I use myself that I highly recommend and that is Isabel De Los Rios The Diet Solution Program. It is not a usual diet program, it’s more about finding out what kind of body type you have, and then choose the kind of food your body needs.
If you are dreading bikini season, dread no more! There are four simple things that you can do to help you get your body bikini ready! Start by burning more calories than you eat. Intake less calories and exercise more often. While exercising, don’t forget to tone those muscles.
Toning exercises will help you to lose those last 10 pounds that have been driving you crazy for months! Also don’t forget to work on your abs. Your stomach will be the first thing people notice at the beach, so you want to have those abs toned and looking sexy. Finally, and most importantly, eat healthy.

As a society, most of us are becoming increasingly aware that we need to protect ourselves from the ultraviolet radiation (or UV) of the sun. As recently conducted medical studies have shown, damage from ultraviolet radiation can result in a variety of different side-effects including premature aging, skin cancer, and eye damage.
Yes, the ultraviolet radiation from the sun can be extremely damaging. This is not to say, however, that we must avoid the sun and the beach completely. Rather, we need to take precautionary measures when we go to the beach to protect ourselves from ultraviolet radiation damage.
The first way to protect ourselves is by educating ourselves about the sun and ultraviolet radiation. So let’s do just that. Anytime that we walk outside and into the sun, we are exposing ourselves to ultraviolet radiation. When we do so, the radiation from the sun will stimulate the top layers of our skin (melanocytes) to protect our skin from damage. When this happens we will see our skin change pigment and will develop a tan. And while society has labeled tans as ‘sexy’, they are really anything but. When our skin becomes tanned it means that our skin has been damaged.
Over time and with repetitive exposure to the sun, our melanocytes become damaged and will no longer protect us from the harmful ultraviolet rays. The damage at this point is irreversible and will ultimately lead to premature aging and an increased risk of skin cancer.
So how can you protect yourself? Lather up with sunscreen! Make sure that every part of your body is lathered up, even the parts that are covered by your clothing. When choosing a sunscreen, make sure that it has an SPF of at least 30. And, along with your sunscreen, be sure to bring other protective agents with you.
Sunglasses, umbrellas, sun shades, hats, and other sun protective clothing are all important to take along with you to the beach.
This summer, throw on your bikini and have a great day at the beach – but do so safely. Familiarize yourself with the effects of ultraviolet rays and take precautions to protect yourself and your skin from sun damage.
Always be sure that sunscreen is the first thing you put in your beach bag. Along with sunscreen, be sure to pack protective clothing, sunglasses, sun hats, and umbrellas. None of these accessories will ruin your day at the beach, but not taking them along could ruin your skin!
